Chuan Long

My story

Hi, I’m Chuan Long.

I trained as a nurse, served two years of national service, and now study Communications and New Media at NUS. I make videos about endurance and responsibility, and I started Family Leadership to help families have the conversation before life forces it.

How I got here

My path has never been a straight line

Growing up

A family argument I never forgot

When I was younger, I watched relatives argue over funeral arrangements while they were still grieving. They loved each other. Nobody had ever talked about any of it, so every hard decision landed on them at the worst moment.

2020 to 2023

Nursing

I trained as a nurse for three years. In 2023, working in the A&E at Changi General Hospital, I watched a family call out “Dad” one last time around a stretcher. I stood there, helpless, and understood that some pain can’t be fixed with medicine.

2023 to 2025

National service, and two rejections

I served two years of national service. In that time I applied to study medicine at NUS, twice, and was turned down both times. It felt like the world had come crashing down. It also taught me what I now believe most: keep going after things fall apart.

2025

NUS, and my first videos

I started Communications and New Media at NUS, and began sharing what years of failing and starting again had taught me. Those videos have now been watched more than a million times on Instagram.

2026

Family Leadership

Two moments stayed with me: the family at the stretcher, and the argument in my own family. Family Leadership is what I built from them, a way for families to talk it through and write the decisions down before life forces them. The memorial care behind it is Nirvana Memorial Garden’s, through Zen Destin.

What I believe

A few things I hold to

  • Endurance over talent. Almost everything good comes from the willingness to keep going after it stops being exciting.
  • Responsibility is love in action. Caring about people is easy. Showing up and carrying the hard things for them is the real thing.
  • Start before you’re ready. Clarity comes from doing, not from waiting to feel certain.
  • Leave people better. Whether it’s a video or a conversation, the point is that someone walks away lighter or braver.
